Field Note, July 2026: The Curriculum Is Live

The launch note: what shipped in July 2026, what the curriculum covers, and what gets re-audited next.

By Reviewed

The Forward Deployed went live this month: a curriculum for mid-senior software engineers researching and preparing for Forward Deployed Engineer roles. This first note records what shipped. Future notes will track new pages, revised claims, and what the posting data shows as the role settles.

What shipped in July 2026

  • The core curriculum: roughly fifty pages across AI Systems, Customer Outcomes, Interview Practice, Real Deployments, and Career & Comparisons.
  • Company interview guides for Palantir, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Cloud, and startups. Each is labeled with the strength of its public evidence, because the loops are documented very unevenly.
  • A compensation guide with sourced base bands, current as of July 2026.
  • Are You Ready?, a self-check across the signals FDE loops grade.

What gets re-audited

Every volatile claim on the site carries an as-of date: compensation bands, loop formats, role postings, model facts. Those get re-checked at least quarterly, and the next note will say what moved. If you find a stale claim before we do, the about page explains how to get it corrected.
